Let Go of Guilt
Are you having a hard time letting go of the guilt that plagues you? Perhaps the memory of your past relationship’s demise still rears up now and then, and you feel shame and hurt all over again. This applies particularly to anyone who has suffered through the pain of unwanted divorce. At the time, you believed you would be fine and have a bright future; the dust would settle and you would continue on in your life, hopeful that you will find joy and even love, some day. And yet, there are unspoken doubts that cling on.
How to Heal Your Heart
The number one step is simple. Talk to God about your pain. Let it all pour out, confessing your part of any misdeed or act that is blameworthy. Let your mind go into all the corners of those terrible memories and, as the Spirit of God brings those things to your remembrance, immediately repent of all wrong doing on your part. Ask God to forgive you, and He WILL. There are so many Bible verses that confirm God’s willingness to forgive us. Here is one that comes to mind:
If we confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 (KJV)
That’s a promise! Our part is to confess our sin. God takes care of the rest and FORGIVES us. Notice the last part of the verse. He cleanses us from all unrighteousness. That rotten sinful thing that we did or said gets totally wiped away. You get to go FREE and begin again with a fresh start!
The best thing you can do for yourself whenever you are tempted to feel guilty (and temptation is from Satan) is to remember one thing — God cannot lie. Therefore His promises are true. It’s much easier to believe in Him than to believe in yourself. His love is perfect. And the best part is… his love is unlimited and unending. How amazing!
So where is condemnation? GONE!
“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who
are in Christ Jesus…” Romans 8:1
“… as far as east is from the west, so far has he removed
our transgressions from us.” Psalm 103:12
When God forgives you of your sins, you are totally forgiven and those sins are not even remembered by God.
“For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.” Jeremiah 31:34
Wow! What an amazing promise that is. So if God doesn’t even remember your sins because you’ve repented of them and He has forgiven them… WHY are YOU still holding onto the blame?
“ For he (God) has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves (Jesus), in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
So that settles it! Jesus has already paid the price for our sins. When we confess our sins and are forgiven, we get to go FREE. Free from all shame, blame and guilt. All that remains to be done is to thank God for His amazing love! Thank you, Lord.
The Healing Continues
The continual healing of your broken or bruised heart happens gently, over time. How long? As long as it takes. So stay in faith and trust God to do exactly what he promises (as in the verses above). Don’t let condemnation, fear, anger, disappointment and those doubts back into your realm of thinking. And whatever you do, do NOT speak words of defeat and doubt out loud! That is like saying you really don’t believe God’s promises are true! Lean on God and let him do the work of healing in your heart.
